Pay your Zakat online, or apply for assistance if you or your family are in need.

Paying Zakat

Pay Zakat online (opens MadinaApps payments)

Requesting Zakat assistance

Apply for Zakat assistance (opens the Zakat application form on Jotform)

How the application works

  1. Individuals and families in need of financial support complete the online application (opens the Zakat application form on Jotform). No assistance can be granted without it.
  2. A reviewer confirms that the application is complete and contacts the applicant for an interview to assess their need and eligibility.
  3. The reviewer works with the Shura (committee) to reach a decision based on the facts, information and documents provided.
  4. If the application is approved, the reviewer notifies the applicant and explains the payment that will be made to the third party. If it is declined, the reviewer may contact the applicant to let them know.

Zakat assistance policy

  1. Applications must be complete. Applicants must fill out every required section of the application and attach all required supporting documents. Additional documents may be requested.
  2. False information disqualifies. Applicants who knowingly provide false information may be disqualified from assistance.
  3. Eligibility. Applicants affirm that they, and their household, are eligible for Zakat according to the Holy Qur'an (9:60).
  4. Annual limits. The maximum assistance in a year is $200 for an individual and $500 for a family. Any exception requires the explicit approval of the Executive Committee or the designated committee (Shura).
  5. Payment to third parties. Assistance is paid directly to third parties for basic necessities, such as rent (including utilities), burial expenses, food, shelter, transportation or medical expenses. Checks are never written to individuals, and Zakat is never given as cash or gift cards.
  6. Processing time. Approval and payment can take up to 10 days. Complete applications are reviewed in the order they are received.
  7. Middle Tennessee only. Zakat assistance is limited to residents of Middle Tennessee. If you live elsewhere, please contact your local Islamic center.
  8. Final decisions. ICN makes every effort to provide the best possible help for each person's circumstances, within the rules of Zakat and the funds available. The Zakat Committee's decision is final and is not provided in writing.
  9. Verification and confidentiality. ICN may verify the information provided with appropriate sources. Applications and supporting documents are kept confidential.
  10. Tax reporting. Applicants are responsible for reporting any Zakat assistance received to the IRS and other government agencies.
